The Mediation Process is set out below.

The Mediation Process Steps

CHOOSING A DATE

Counsel can call Jocelyn at 519-252-2772 or email her at jocelyn@suzormediation.com to arrange a date. She will require contact information for each counsel and each client. Once the joint session is scheduled she will arrange the intake sessions for each client to take place prior to that session.

RETAINER

An Agreement to Mediate will be forwarded to counsel and parties for signature via Docusign.

INTAKE FORMS

Clients will be sent an intake form to provide some preliminary information for their intake appointment.

INTAKE SESSIONS

Each client has a private intake session during which the mediator determines the history of the relationship, personality styles, conflict resolution styles and also screens for power imbalances and domestic violence so that an appropriate process can be designed for clients to mediate without intimidation or fear.

MEDIATION BRIEFS

Counsel are not required to do traditional full mediation briefs but it is helpful to send any documents or financial disclosure that may be in dispute. It is helpful to receive a one page confidential summary from each lawyer that summarizes the issues and obstacles from their point of view. The mediator cannot guarantee she can read items sent within twenty-four (24) hours but will do her best.

DISCLOSURE

It is important that all mediated agreements take place on the foundation of solid disclosure. If disclosure is not complete it is not a barrier to the mediation process because the mediator can work through the timelines for completion.

FINANCIAL MEDIATION

The mediator will use Divorcemate to do appropriate support calculations as well as a Net Family Property Statement. It has been our experience that the creation of these documents within the session makes it easier for clients to view them as neutral and understand the results when the information has been created throughout the session.
